AFTER THOROUGH RESEARCH AND CONSULTATIONS WITH NUMEROUS EXPERTS, THE DRIVERS LICENCING AUTHORITY (DLA) WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE NH&MP.

The NH&MP has strived not only to educate and assist commuters but also to enforce law for better safety and convenience. However, in view of the ongoing and potential surge in traffic, causing thereby an expansion of road networks, the NH&MP must prepare well to meet any challenges. After thorough research and consultations with numerous experts, the Drivers Licencing Authority (DLA) was established by the NH&MP, IG, NH&MP A.D Khowaja said this while addressing during one day workshop on the topic “Standardization and Harmonization of Drivers Licence Issuance mechanism”. One day Stakeholder Agencies Review Workshop was conducted on the theme of Standardization and Harmonization of Drivers Licence Issuance mechanism by National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) and National Transport Research Centre (NTRC) on the directions of Federal Minister for Communications, Murad Saeed. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and NTU International Consultancy Services provided necessary collaboration for commencement of the event. The IGP, NH&MP A.D Khowaja inaugurated the workshop and welcomed all the participants. The IG, NH&MP further lauded that the Guidelines for Drivers Licencing have been produced through an assessment of the current drivers licensing situation in Pakistan, consideration of Pakistan’s 2030 regional and global road safety commitments, benchmarking of global good practice and consultation with NH&MP, provincial and territory driver licensing authority (DLA) within the Government of Punjab, KPK, Sindh, and ICT and other key stakeholders. The Secretary Communications, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui closed the workshop with the concluding remarks that the provinces are required to play their vital role in the improvement of road safety particularly enhancing the mechanism of driving licenses issuance. Finally firm recommendations for the improvement in the issuance of driving licenses in the whole country are framed for consideration of Government of Pakistan.
