Statement by Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureishi:
Bismillah IrRehman Nir Rahim,
Representatives of Press,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Assalaam-o-Alaikum and Good Afternoon,
I welcome my brother H.E. Mr. Kamilov Abdulaziz Khafizovich to Islamabad. Today we had a very fruitful and a very forward looking meeting at Foreign Office. I am grateful to you my brother and your leadership for taking time to be here. I am touched by the interest taken by the President in drafting the letter addressed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, which indicates a very comprehensive roadmap for meaningful engagement between Pakistan and Uzbekistan in the days ahead. The rail-road corridor, which will enhance the connectivity in the region, has been elaborately discussed. We also talked about the international and regional support for the subject corridor. In my view, there are great opportunities to promote bilateral trade between the two countries. We also discussed that it may be ensured that we may have the same objectives for achieving peace and stability in the region. I was glad to hear from my brother Mr. Kamilov that our views regarding Afghanistan are almost alike. Both our countries feel that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem. We are prepared to facilitate and support the dialogue process. I look forward to a meaningful engagement with you. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the warm invitation extended by your good self for visiting Uzbekistan. I would avail this at the first instance in order to take the discussions forward. I thank you!

Your Excellency Foreign Minister,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all I would like to thank my brother and counterpart for inviting me to pay an official visit to Pakistan. My delegation comprised of other Ministers as well and we discussed at length the different dimension of Pak-Uzbek relationship. We would continue to cooperate in trade sector. We also discussed the various development projects like transport, communication etc. in the region. We also focused upon regional security especially peace and stability in Afghanistan. In this case, we have common approach. Regional support is very important because it is in the interest of both the countries. We discussed cooperation between the two countries in facing various challenges and threats. I had in my delegation the Head of National Security Services, which is evident of the fact that we give importance to cooperation between the two countries in the realm of security. We also talked about strengthening cooperation in the areas of tourism, people to people exchanges and cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries. I have invited my colleague and brother to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan as soon as possible which may also serve an opportunity to visit historical places like Samarkand and Bukhara.
We think that Pakistan is a regional power, which can play central role in guaranteeing regional peace and stability. Both countries share this common interest and we will continue to cooperate for this cause. We can shape a comprehensive/roadmap agenda for bilateral cooperation, which may encompass all possible areas of cooperation. We have broken together the pause in our bilateral relations, which remained for a period of certain years. I hope to see you my brother in Uzbekistan. Thank you for your efforts for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries and generous hospitality extended to our delegation.

Let me add one line, we have not only broken the pause but we have added a new page to our bilateral relations.
