The Annual Charity Bazaar, the flagship event of Pakistan Foreign Office Women’s Association (PFOWA), was held at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today under the leadership of Mrs. Mahwish Sohail President PFOWA. A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the day-long festivities, making it a huge success. The wide participation of diplomatic corps based in Islamabad with their colorful stalls turned the venue into a cultural hub.
First Lady Mrs. Samina Alvi, spouse of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The First Lady was received by the Patron-in-Chief PFOWA Mrs. Mehriene Qureshi, spouse of Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi,and President PFOWA Mrs. Mahwish Sohail. The event was attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society, media persons, businessmen, officials, academia with their families, who enjoyed cultural performances from various countries including Pakistan.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the First Lady appreciated PFOWA’s outstanding efforts to organize such an impressive event. She also lauded the organizers for highlighting the Pakistani culture in such a befitting manner, besides carrying out welfare activities to assist the underprivileged families. She added that it was heartening to see hundreds of Pakistanis and foreigners from various walks of life attending the event with enthusiasm. The First Lady also visited different stalls set up at the bazaar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Mehriene Qureshi, Patron-in-Chief PFOWA, highly commended PFOWA’s philanthropist work, its cultural interface, and its social outreach. She also admired the Foreign Diplomatic Missions for bringing cultural diversity and heritage and other aspects of their respective countries together at the event.
In her welcome remarks, PFOWA President, Mrs. Mahwish Sohail, highlighted PFOWA’s activities for the promotion of charitable causes and appreciated the cooperation extended by local sponsors and Foreign Embassies based in Islamabad in making the event a great success.
Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood in his remarks on the occasion deeply appreciated the efforts of PFOWA for organizing the successful event. He also lauded the cooperation and contributions of the resident diplomatic missions.
During the event, a Parade of Nations was held where children from diplomatic missions in their traditional costumes gave a colourful cultural performance. Live performance by musical bands and raffle draw made the event further interesting. A major highlight of the event was the auction of cricket balls and bats signed by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The event turned out as a display of rich cultural blend of the diplomatic communities and helped to promote deeper social and cultural understanding and fostering friendship besides promotion of charity. The event was part of PFOWA’s efforts to raise funds for welfare and charity work.
