Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan presided over a meeting to finalize the annual development program for 2018-19 that decided the completion and upgradation of mega projects in the province on priority basis. The projects prioritized for completion and upgradation included Swat Motorway, Rapid Bus Transit Peshawar, Chashma Right Bank Lift Canal, Gomal Zam Dam, sports grounds and upgradation of 200 higher secondary schools throughout the province.
The meeting decided the completion of ongoing schemes and the initiation of demand driven public welfare projects on need basis for which resources would be provided, the meeting decided.
The Chief Minister directed the heads of public sector institutions for meaningful utilization of resources, leading from the front to complete these schemes as expeditiously as possible. He underlined the need for the capacity building for enhancing the scope of the productive sectors, attracting investment in mines and minerals and tourism related projects. Different departments should plan their priority areas, he added.
Mahmood Khan directed for a comprehensive and feasible master plan for the beautification and uplifting of Peshawar and providing maximum facilities to the people of Peshawar city. The meeting on finalization of annual development projects was attended by provincial ministers, Advisors, Special Assistants to Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, administrative secretaries and others related officers. The meeting focused on the annual development program of the province. Out of the 1749 projects, 135 projects have been completed while another 439 projects were at different phases of completion. These projects after completion would give 1653 different facilities to the people.
Chief Minister underlined the need for strengthening the fiscal base of the province for the implementation of developmental plan under PTI agenda. He directed to complete preparation for the provincial government net hydel power and other dues to get them from the federal government. He assured to complete the near to completion, flagship projects and other feasible schemes in order to give maximum relief to the people. The meeting also approved the opening of new schools in hired buildings.
Mahmood Khan directed to included schemes in ADP for the provision of necessary equipments in BHUs including the rehabilitation of BHUs in different parts of the province. The meeting also decided to establish burn centres at all divisional headquarters in different phases. It also decided the extension of Sehat Insaf Card, the improvement of infrastructure for the provision of drinking water facilities and creating fiscal space for such projects. The meeting also decided to give grant to IT Board with focus on the promotional and operationalization of IT related activities. The meeting also decided to develop some scenic spots throughout the province on tourism lines. The meeting also decided to transfer Galiyat Development Authority from Local Government Department to Culture Department in order to achieve our targets set for the promotion of tourism as a industry in the province. The meeting also underlined the need for a comprehensive plan for Peshawar that included traffic plan, water supply, sanitation and other problems in Peshawar City. Chief Minister directed to have a complete master plan for the permanent solution of different problems of the people of Peshawar. We cannot afford any delay, he added.
The meeting also reviewed the progress on Reshakai Economic Zone and allowed the acquisition of additional 1600 acres of land for the Reshakai Economic Zone. The meeting also asked for the progress so far made on the 5% mark up as a relief to the industrialists under the provincial industrial policy. The meeting also underlined for attracting investors in mines and minerals which the Chief Minister termed a very good advantage to enhance the fiscal space of the province.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan ordered an enquiry against merciless cutting of trees in Kumrat Valley. He directed the district administrations to conduct raids against the use of shopping bags in the markets. He also directed to resolve the genuine problems of the school teaching community. He also directed to ensure immediate relief activities for the affectees of fire caught in the forest of Loser Tehsil Besham. He assured financial and administrative assistance to the medical teaching institutes, hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was presiding over different meetings at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. The Chief Minister took strong notice of merciless cutting of trees in Kumrat valley District Dir and termed it as life killing act. He ordered an enquiry against cutting of trees and said that elements involved in cutting of trees would not escape punishment. We could not allow anyone to damage the environment. “Strict action would be taken against timber mafia in order to protect the forest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’’, he warned. He said visible and effective steps would be taken to ensure the protection of forests. Meanwhile the Chief Minister taking a notice of the violation of provincial government’s directives against use of plastic shopping bags, has directed Deputy Commissioners and TMOs to conduct raids against use of shopping bags in the markets in order to discourage this trend. He directed that stern action should be taken against the violators throughout the province directing that ban on the uses of shopping bags should be ensured in all cities and villages of the province. Earlier, the Chief Minister assured to provide financial and administrative assistance to MTI hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adding that health and education sectors were the top priority of PTI government right from its first day. He said our previous provincial government also provided maximum resources for these sectors. It was the first priority of the government to provide best health facilities to the people. Mahmood Khan also took a notice of protest by the teachers of community schools. He directed to resolve all reasonable issues of teachers on priority basis. Our government will facilitate the teachers and they will not be disappointed, he added.
