Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan said that PTI government is committed to promotion of education under article 25-A of the constitution “education for all”. In 2013, education was in worse condition when PTI come to power therefore education budget was enhanced from 63 billion to 138 billion rupees. People of the Province expressed their confidence in the policies of PTI and gave it a second chance to serve the province for the first time in the history of the province, which is the result of our five years team work. His government will raise the status of the teachers in the society and hoped that the teacher will perform their duties with devotion and honesty.
He expressed these views while addressing the enrollment drive for September 2018 “pick the books and come to school” at Shaheed Hussain Sharif Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 Peshawar. Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Elementary and Secondary Education Ziaullah Bangash, Secretary Education, Arshad Khan, Director Education Farid Khattak, developmental partner USAID, UNDP, ARC, MCHD, representatives of other organizations, teachers, representative of Mass Media and students attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister said “education for all” is a mission envisioned by PTI from the day first. Article 25A of the constitution stresses on providing education to all the citizens without any discrimination. PTI has already formed a policy in this regard. The valuable reforms in the field of education made by PTI government in the previous tenure are the visible proof of our commitment to education. People gave mandate to PTI for the second time in the province due to its reforms in education and other sectors. He said that people have pinned high hopes and responsibility in their shoulders and assured to fulfill people’s expectations for educating the new generation. He said, the government cannot succeed without the cooperation of the people. Together we would lead this province toward greater success through collective wisdom. He declared that no nation can get developed without education. Therefore every individual of the society has to play a role in the promotion of education in order to make the admission campaign successful, he added.
Mahmood Khan assured to give respectable status to teacher in the society and hoped that teachers would reciprocate it through their commitment and consistency. He assured increase in the education budget for the financial year 2018-19. He said that he will take forward the PTI policies and steps of the previous government. An educated and well awared nation is our ultimate objective, for which we will work hard. Later on, talking to media, he said that he will continue with the policy of the previous government of bringing the out of school kids to the schools.
He declared that he will implement the laws made by the previous government for enrollment of children in school and promotion of education in the province adding that he has already issued instructions to law department to form rules under those laws. Answering a question regarding Ehtesab Commission, he said that the previous government has formed this commission on a need basis but now NAB is working very effectively and efficiently therefore there is no need for it anymore. PTI government in the center believed in accountability and the provincial government will strengthen its anti corruption department too. He said that employees of Ehtesab Commission will be merged in other departments.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan sensitized the law enforcing agencies to be sensitive during the holy month of Muharramul Haram. However, he has expressed satisfaction over the security measures and arrangements for maintenance of law and order situation to be under control during the holy month. He directed for the full presence of the personnel of law enforcing agencies adding that there would be no off from duty. He also directed for complete coordination amongst various government agencies and departments providing cooperation to the administration.
He also directed to monitor the sensitive places, hotels, sarais and more importantly constant surveillance of border. There should be district committees for liaison with the community. These committees should also have the representation of elected representatives. These committees would remove all apprehensions and resolve issues arising at any stage, he added.
He was presiding over a law and order situation meeting at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. Spokesman of the provincial government Shaukat Yousafzai, Chief Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, IGP Saluddin Mehsood, administrative secretaries and others attended. The meeting was briefed about the measures taken by police and district administration, local government and health department. The participants were also briefed about the pre, during and post security arrangements and the expected issues in the holy month of Muharram. The meeting also unfolded the emergency and contingent plans for the sensitive areas and districts by different departments. The police have already deputed monitoring teams comprising police personnel to monitor the Majalis and sensitive areas. SoP in this regard has already been issued. Aerial surveillance would also be carried out along with the grounded measures in sensitive districts such a Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and D.I.Khan. The security arrangements in the seven newly merged districts were complete wherein Kurram and Orakzai would be sensitive pockets. The Health department would arrange resources out of its own kitty for any emergency. At provincial level Secretary Health would head a team which would look after the health related services and activities in Muharramul Haram. Similar arrangements have also been done at divisional and district levels. Hospitals have been asked to be at alert. The local government department would arrange fire fighting, sanitation, drinking water and alternative arrangements for electricity. The meeting also focused on the allied activities for security.
Chief Minister appreciated the foolproof arrangements for peace and tranquility during the holy month of Muharramul Haram. He directed all the departments and the organizations to spare no moment in the complete arrangements during the month. Maintenance of peace will have to be ensured and this should be done through closer interaction, collaboration and cooperation. He directed to keep a vigil on the hotels, sarais, hostels and public places and constantly monitor them. He directed the PESCO for uninterrupted power supply during the Monharam. He also directed to check the CCTV cameras, calling upon the Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to fully focus on their respective areas as peace is essentially required and maintenance of law and order situation is a prime importance in the Holy month of Muharram. This is a collective responsibility and all should cooperate with each other round the clock, he concluded.
