Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has constituted a parliamentary probe committee of the whole event in Peshawar University. The probe committee to be represented by both the treasury and opposition benches will investigate the incident of student’s demonstration leading to a “lathi charge” on the campus.
This he ordered while meeting a delegation of students at Chief Minister House Peshawar. Provincial Spokesman Mr. Shaukat Yousafzai, Secretaries Higher Education and Information were also present at the occasion. The students kept the Chief Minister abreast of their problems and the maltreatment with them on the campus yesterday.
The Chief Minister regretted the incident and directed the Higher Education Department to conduct a preliminary inquiry digging out the actual causes of the incident. The Higher Education should immediately submit its recommendations to the parliamentary committee. The parliamentary committee would look into different angles and dimensions of the whole incident and present its report within 14 days and action would be initiated in the light of the findings of the parliamentary committee.
Chief Minister assured against illegal postings in the university and further assured strict implementation under the law, governing universities in the province. The government would ensure the dispensation of justice at all levels under the law. The parliamentary committee’s findings would identify the wrongs and transgression committed by anybody, whosoever he might be, he added.
The students appreciated the steps of illegal occupation of hostels, however expressed reservations over the rise of fees structure. They also welcomed both the parliamentary committee comprising both the treasury and opposition benches and the preliminary inquiry to bring to limelight the actual and factual position of the incident.
