PESHAWAR: Senior Minister Muhammad Atif Khan has said that Tourism Department is being linked with the Management Information System (MIS) and its online App to facilitate tourists and attract more visitors to the scenic places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at a ceremony held in connection with the World Tourism Day on Thursday, Atif Khan said that provincial government had a vision to present Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a tourism brand to the world. He vowed to introduce world class tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Provincial Minister for Forests Ishtiaq Urmar, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Technology Kamran Bangash, former provincial ministers Syed Aqil Shah, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Secretary Tourism Shahid Zaman, Additional Secretary Babar Khan and others were also present.
“Tourism and the Digital Transformation” is the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day (WTD) being marked on September 27 every year.
“The Management Information System is of paramount importance as it will easily facilitate the tourists to know about the routes, scenic spots, rest-houses and other necessary information available through online App via their mobile phones,” he said.
He said that all data of the tour operators, hotels, restaurants booking, tracking, tourist resorts, lakes, weather condition, cultures of various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be uploaded on the website and mobile app to help tourists get information about these facilities and situation at home before leaving for a particular destination.
The capacity of registered tour operators had been built through workshops and trainings so they could better facilitate the visiting tourists in the province.
The senior minister, who also has the portfolio of Sports, Tourism, Archaeology, Culture, Museums and Youth Affairs, added that the department had taken tangible steps to boost archaeological, adventure, religious and cultural tourism.
In the first phase, he said, that they were taking various measures to lure domestic tourists while in the second stage the international tourists would be attracted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s marvelous scenic sights.
He said that Sports and Tourism Department had acquired 400 kanal of land at the historic Hund village in Swabi district to set up a facility for water sports activities.
He said that tourism activities would be promoted at international level to apprise foreigners of the tourism potential and beautiful places of the province.
He said that he had accepted the Tourism Department as a challenge to promote tourism in every nook and corner of the province.
He said Tourism Authority was being established to devise a comprehensive strategy for the promotion of tourism and facilitation of visiting tourists.
Atif Khan said that a 10-member high level Task Force had been constituted to remove bottlenecks in the way of tourism promotion and identify new tourist resorts in the province.
“Chief Minister Mahmood Khan is chairman of the Task Force while senior minister for Tourism, four other provincial ministers, KP chief secretary, secretaries Tourism, Communication & Works Department and Forests are its members,” he said.
He said the Task Force would formulate policy for the access of tourists to the scenic resorts and also construct and renovate tourist attractions in the province.
