FM Qureshi met his Qatari counterpart in New York today. The two sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues to give impetus to the existing ties.
FM Qureshi met his Swiss counterpart Mr. Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The two FMs agreed to celebrate the 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations in a befitting manner next year.
FM participated in the High Level Event on A4P, hosted by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. FM highlighted Pakistan, as a top troop contributing country to UN peacekeeping, had provided over 200,000 troops in 46 peacekeeping mission since 1960s.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in  New York today. 

The two Ministers discussed a wide range of regional and bilateral issues of mutual interest and expressed satisfaction on the current state of relations. They agreed to celebrate the upcoming 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in a befitting manner. 

 
Foreign Minister Qureshi appreciated the development work undertaken by the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) in the socio-economic sectors in Pakistan. He emphasized the need to increase bilateral trade, encourage investment, promote education, augment business linkages and facilitate people to people contacts.

 
The two Foreign Ministers agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, including political, trade and economic, defence and security, cultural and educational relations.

Meeting of the Foreign Minister with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar

On the side lines of 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani congratulated the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the successful election and welcomed his appointment as the Foreign Minister of Pakistan. The two Foreign Ministers applauded the close brotherly relationship between the two countries and vowed to strengthen the ties by forging partnerships and enhancing economic and trade relations.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi welcomed increase in the bilateral trade by 53%. He welcomed the formal operationalization of the Hamad Port and stressed to unleash the great economic potential between the two countries by increasing the exports in sectors such as food items, construction material, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, sports goods and fabrics. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi proposed early visit of the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and Industry and stressed on activating the Joint Business Council, agreed between the two countries .
 

The Foreign Minister of Qatar thanked Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and stressed the importance Qatar attaches to its bilateral relations with Pakistan. He reciprocated the cordiality shown by his counterpart by stressing the importance of translating the longstanding historic relations between the two countries into enhanced economic partnership. He also emphasized the need to activate all existing institutional mechanisms between the two countries, to take bilateral relations to the next level.

 
Both sides reiterated that Pakistan and Qatar are important members of the Muslim world and vowed to continue to work together at all fora for the advancement of common causes.

At Peacekeeping meeting Foreign Minister recommits to Pakistan’s continued leadership of the UN’s flagship enterprise

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi today participated in the High Level Event on Action for Peacekeeping (A4P), hosted by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Speaking on the occasion, the Foreign Minister paid tribute to peacekeepers who were serving in volatile environments to complete their mandates.  He also highlighted that Pakistan, as a top troop contributing country to UN peacekeeping, had provided over 200,000 troops in 46 peacekeeping mission since 1960s, 156 of our bravest had given the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of peace.

Welcoming SG’s initiative for its comprehensive and inclusive approach, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi cautioned that it was vital to maintain a balance between various components of peacekeeping missions. Ensuring effective implementation in letter and spirit of the initiative was also necessary for achieving desired effects on ground. He also emphasized the importance of rationalizing and prioritizing mandates of peacekeeping missions.

He assured that Pakistan would always be supportive of efforts to improve peacekeeping performance. Pakistan was first country to endorse the declaration, something that had been specifically appreciated and acknowledged by the Secretary General.

The A4P initiative aims at addressing strategic and operational challenges faced by contemporary peacekeeping. A Declaration of Shared Commitments was formally adopted at the event by member states. In the Declaration, all  stakeholders of UN peacekeeping; UN Secretariat, Security Council, General Assembly, troop and police contributing countries (TCCs) ,host states, financial contributors, and regional organizations committed to acknowledge and fulfill their respective roles for the success of peacekeeping missions.

Foreign Minister Addresses the Atlantic Council event in New York

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi addressed a distinguished gathering of business leaders, think tank analysts and media persons convened by Atlantic Council in New York today. 
 
Describing the results of the July 25 elections as a resounding verdict in favor of change by the people of Pakistan, the Foreign Minister laid out his Government’s vision for a business friendly Pakistan. 
 
Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted PTI Government’s commitment to establishing rule of law, and rooting out corruption and red tape. He added that it was a priority with the Government to generate employment opportunities for the millions of young Pakistanis entering the job market every year.
 
The Foreign Minister briefed the distinguished audience  on investment climate and opportunities in Pakistan. The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan had large and growing middle class market and a young work force while being located at the crossroads of China, Central and South Asia. He recognized improving the ease of doing business for foreign companies in Pakistan. He noted that Pakistan was already home to many renowned multinational corporations and international franchises, which had been operating profitably in the country for many decades. He especially acknowledged Mr. Sigve Brekke, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Telenor Group, who had traveled from Norway to consecrate the message on Pakistan’s investment potential. 
 
On the external front, Foreign Minister Qureshi outlined Prime Minister Imran Khan’s approach of proactive engagement with neighboring countries seeking peace and stability in South Asia.He advocated the significance of the approach in terms of attracting investment as a prerequisite for achieving the development agenda of the Government.
