Karachi, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani held a meeting with stakeholders of KCR to review the progress of Anti-Encroachment drive over KCR, for revival of the Project under SC
directions of May 9th 2019.It was decided to continue the on-going
operation against illegal encroachments on KCR within 50/50 feet of both
Right of Ways(ROWs) as per joint and collective plan and mechanism
devised on may 14th by the Pakistan Railway, Anti Encroachment cell,
local police and district administration under the Commissioner
The Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani has asked the authorities to cancel leases of all their commercial in titles with 50 feet ROW and remove them immediately without any further delay with the help of police and district adminstration.
DCS of respective district had also briefed about progress of on-
going operation. Operation in district will be started as per plan to
engage the people of the area to remove their illegal settlements and
shift to safer places.
He has also directed all DCs to regular patrolling in their respective
jurisdictions to ensure on- going operation in full swing except the
the house holds, it would be cleared as per SC directions of their
rest elements and rehabilitation properly, take concrete steps to remove/demolish all commercials immediately without fail.He said that under SC compliance/direction that NO leniency will be allowed to any one in
this regard and it would be implemented in letter & spirit way.He has
sympathised with the affected but said that they would be compensate
/resettle after proper plan of rehabilitation by PR given by next week
to the Govt of Sindh for proper implementation as per policy and
commitment so that it would not be free riders again.
Earlier the members of Civil society and affected of KCR led by Mr.
Karamat Ali, Jibran Nasir, Faisal Edhi and others met with Commissioner Karachi Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani before the meeting on KCR progress and review. They apprised their grievances and issues of affected has said that the providing shelter was the responsibility of the State. They said that we were not opposing KCR,but it should be examined and implemented judiciously as had filed an Petition in SC for verification etc, it would be resolved on humanitarian grounds not on
the cost of people.
The Commissioner Karachi has assured them that their issue will be
settled as per SC directions given in the judgement . But it is clear
to comply the SC directions in the matter letter & spirit manner,
operation is continued and all encroachments will be cleared as per
plan and policy.
