Chief Minister asks Strategic Support Unit (SSU) to assist the Government in implementation of PTI’s Manifesto and 100 days Agenda.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has directed the strategic support unit for replicating the good governance model in the newly merged districts and the extension of law of the land there. The SSU should coordinate with all departments for the purpose, he added.
He was holding a meeting with the Strategic Support Unit (SSU) on Tuesday 28th August 2018 at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. Shehzad Bangash, Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development, Muhammad Israr, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and SSU team also attended the meeting. The objective of the meeting was to brief the Chief Minister on the role of the SSU as a delivery unit supporting the office of the chief executive. Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, Head SSU gave a presentation on the purpose of establishing the SSU, its role, functions and areas of support for implementation of ongoing reforms, since 2015. The Chief Minister was also given a detailed briefing on the integration of the newly merged districts of KP, with focus on key historical, legal, strategic and administrative challenges faced by government within the framework specified by the 25th Constitutional Amendment. Chief Minister was briefed about the seven newly merged districts having a population of fifty lac with 22 % education ratio. The major challenges in the seven merged districts included the laying down the infrastructure, political integration, the introduction of local government system and the operational policing.
Chief Minister reminded the participants of the sacrifices of people of newly emerged districts both lives and property in the war on terror. The newly merged districts would be developed as per vision of Imran Khan adding that different departments would have to make short term, midterm and long term planning tagged with time lines and we have to initiate steps on emergency basis for fully integrating and streamlining these districts. He stressed for planning the promotion of tourism and economic oriented activities which would be initiated within the current fiscal year. There would be a complete balance between spending and available resources. Important projects would be given priority in the current fiscal year.
Mahmood Khan directed for inclusion the streamlining of the newly merged districts into the government priority areas adding that we have to give immediate relief to the people of newly merged districts as per vision of the PTI.
Chief Minister welcomed the support and directed the SSU to maintain close liaison and support with government departments for the integration of the newly merged districts to ensure swift and systematic transition of rule of law, governance and services to the people. Chief Minister acknowledged and appreciated the Technical Assistance rendered by UNDP in Governance Reforms.
Chief Minister also instructed government departments to prepare comprehensive five-year development plans for implementation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf agenda of change in KP which was heavily acknowledged by the people during the recent general elections. The five-year plans will help consolidate reform gains of the last five years of PTI rule in KP, realize further improvement in government performance, improve delivery of social sector services, provide relief to the poor and create opportunities of gainful livelihood to the people of KP. In addition the government departments were directed to prepare their plans in consonance with the 100 Days Agenda announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The SSU was directed to follow-up the process and keep the Chief Minister abreast of progress.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has directed to speed up the reconstruction and rehabilitation of provincial highways in order to integrate the whole province through road communication network. “Road communication is key to the overall development and prosperity”, he added.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding the road projects of provincial highways authority to be initiated in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. Secretaries P&D, C&W and others attended. The Chief Minister was briefed about the proposed projects for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of different highways with the financial help of Asian Development Bank, the procedure of financial help and the latest updates of these projects.
Chief Minister was briefed that there were nine mega projects in road communication being put on ground with the help of Asian Development Bank which the previous government had already approved. However, the federal government is yet to give sovereign guarantee for these projects.
Mahmood Khan endorsed these projects adding that these projects should immediately be given final shape putting them into the implementation phase for an early completion. He said his government has already sketched out a comprehensive strategy for the overall development including the economic development of the province.
