Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Retd. Dost Muhammad Khan has said that Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute Swabi is a great asset for the country. Its services for the country are highly appreciable. He agreed to the proposal for the establishment of endowment fund to help out the poor students. He suggested to establish a high level training academy under the institute and said that modern training and quality education and research is necessary to compete with the developed countries.
He was talking to the President Board of Governors of GIK Shamsul Mulk and Executive Director Shakeel Durrani. Principal Secretary to CM Akbar Khan was also present on this occasion. Shamsul Mulk informed the caretaker Chief Minister about the institute, its performance and presented various suggestions and recommendations for the standardized education and research in the province. He told that 35 students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been selected on merit, however, the institute provide financial support and scholarships to poor but intelligent and talented students. The present arrangements of scholarships are a temporary one needing a permanent solution. He suggested the establishment of endowment fund. Caretaker Chief Minister on principle agreed to the suggestion and assured raising fund for the institution to continue its charitable activity continuously.
Caretaker Chief Minister said that it is the state’s responsibility to provide quality education to its citizen but unfortunately the field of education did not get the kind of attention, it required. Regarding the financial health of the province, he said about the imbalance between income and expenditure due to poor revenue collection end lavish expenditure, which is the basic reason of social degradation and economic decline.
Dost Muhammad Khan said that our collective role speaks volumes about our sincerity to education especially when there is a mismatch between our words and actions. The non-availability of basic facilities in the educational institutions is itself a measuring tool of our commitment to education. However, despite these conditions, there are growing cases that poor students get distinction against heavy odds and qualify for the merit, such students needed to get further education to contribute positively to the society. This also proves that our children are highly talented but they are not provided facilities.
Dost Muhammad Khan said that we have plenty of natural resources which should have been utilized for the strengthening of our financial foundation. He said that all the issues can be resolved if one has deep thoughts knowing the way, how to utilize the natural resources. Caretaker Chief Minister directed to the relevant officers to immediately resolve the issue of provision of Rupees 200 million for the new academic block of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute.
