Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Dost Muhammad Khan has said that the peaceful, impartial and transparent conduct of elections in the province is a challenging priority before the caretaker set up.


Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Dost Muhammad Khan has said that the peaceful, impartial and transparent conduct of elections in the province is a challenging priority before the caretaker set up. He is fully aware of his constitutional responsibilities and his set up was going all out in this regard. The coming days are crucial and he directed the police and the relevant quarters to be careful, fully watchful and efficient using their power and authority as per commandment of the constitution. He directed for the efficient intelligence gathering and sharing in order to generate appropriate response to any eventuality.
He was presiding over a high level meeting on law and order situation and the steps taken by the provincial administration for holding elections peacefully and transparently in the province at his office in Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar. Inspector General of Police, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary Home, DIG Counter Terrorism, SSP Special Branch and others attended.
The Inspector General Police briefed the Caretaker Chief Minister about the steps for better law and order situation, security related issues, progress on national action plan, sectarian harmony, the future plan for improved security in the province. He informed the Caretaker Chief Minister that the repatriation of the Frontier Constabulary would be completed by tomorrow.
Caretaker Chief Minister directed for the accelerated redeployment of Frontier Constabulary in the sensitive areas throughout the province. The repatriation and deployment of Frontier Constabulary would improve the law and order situation and would enhance the security cover to the general elections in the province. He said that the sensitivity of the situation has necessitated the improved and enhanced level of intelligence gathering, the watchfulness of the district administration and the surveillance of the vulnerable points and full time checking that he added would foil all terrorist attempts in the province. The peaceful and transparent conduct as per the mandate of the constitution is obligatory and we have to deliver upto the capacity. We should be ready keeping a vigil over our surroundings, he added.
Justice ® Dost Muhammad Khan said that this province should have a quick response force to counter any terrorism related attempts and added that it was more necessary in the wake of elections in the province. He said that the writ of the government should be visible stressing on the result oriented efforts to give safety and security to the people. He directed to contribute efforts for the sectarian harmony in D.I.Khan and other sensitive districts. He directed to be vigilant and conduct surveillance in sensitive areas. He asked the administration to bring the elders of different sects to the negotiation table and resolve their petty differences. He said that discipline at the polling day should not be compromised. The basic aim is the peaceful conduct of elections in an environment where there is no threat to the lives and properties of the people. He has already sensitized the health sector and the Rescue 1122 for any emergency throughout the province. The safety and security of human lives should continue to be the first and foremost priority.
Caretaker Chief Minister said that he had prepared a set of guidelines to be left behind to coming government for implementation in order to bring visible changes in the resolution of security related issues in the province. We would recommend to the coming government for the provision of force multipliers and other steps that would improve the efficiency of the police force. He said that beating terrorism is the collective responsibility needing collective response from all in the society.
