AUSTERITY MEASURES WITHIN THE NA SECRETARIAT SAVES 18% OF THE BUDGETARY GRANT FOR THE YEAR 2018-2019

Islamabad; National Assembly Secretariat in an unprecedented move in the Parliamentary history of Pakistan has remitted Rs.638.698 million on the account of saving to the national exchequer.

The savings were actualized as a result of various measures initiated within the Secretariat on the direction of Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser. The Speaker after assuming charge of his Office directed for initiation of austerity measures to curtail expenditures within the Secretariat in different heads of account. The Speaker on the other hand also directed that austerity measures should be adopted in such a manner that it does not affect the operational quality and service delivery.

The saving of above mentioned amount is made in different head of accounts from the sanctioned grant of the National Assembly during the fiscal year 2018-19 which amounts to 18% of the total sanctioned budget. These heads of account include POL, gifts and entertainment, foreign and domestic travel and travel allowances of Members of the Parliament. The remittance of saving has been formally conveyed to Ministry of Finance.

 
The Speaker has appreciated the National Assembly Secretariat for realization of his objective of financial management and transparency. He said that presently the country was going through difficult times and it was the responsibility of every individual to contribute towards the national development.

The Speaker said that the present government under the pragmatic leadership of Imran Khan was trying its utmost to overcome the challenges being faced by the country specially the economic problems. He expressed his confidence that the Prime Minister and his team would steer the nation out of the present quagmire soon.
